What is Arudha Lagna in vedic astrology?
The term “Arudha” means image and lagna means rising sign or ascendant. Arudha lagna shows how the world will perceive you from outer world. Arudha lagna also shows how people perceive you before knowing you.
How to find Arudha lagna?
You must look the position of the ascendant lord and see how many houses it is away from the rising sign.
For eg. Your rising sign is Aquarius. If Saturn is in the sign of gemini then Saturn is fifth place away from rising sign.
2. Count the same number of houses from the ascendant lord.
For example: If Saturn is in the fifth house, we will count the same number of houses from Saturn. Then it is the ninth house of Aquarius ascendant that is Libra. So that is the Arudha Lagna of the individual. So the individual would be perceived by others as a person who loves to deal with relationships, business etc. which s/he may not be. It can be an illusion image.

3. Arudha lagna cannot be the ascendant of main birth chart or 7th house. If ascendant lord is placed in rising sign, then we will count ten places away from rising sign. Hence, the tenth house will be the Arudha lagna.
For example: If Saturn is in Ascendant itself for Aquarius ascendant, we will count 10 houses away from the lagna. Hence, tenth house, the sign of Scorpio for Aquarius ascendant is the Arudha lagna. .
4. If ascendant lord is in 7th house than we will count ten places away from the seventh house which is the fourth house.
How K.N Rao defined the exception:
However as per K. N Rao if ascendant lord is in the seventh house than ascendant becomes the Arudha Lagna and if ascendant lord is in rising sign than rising sign is the Arudha lagna.
Arudha lagna is also useful to predict the time of fame and defame of a person.
